Chris Webb,
Operations Manager

Where do you work and what do you do?

Hi, I’m Chris Webb, and I am predominantly based at North Shore Hospital but also cover Waitākere Hospital and support Waitematā community sites as required. My official title is Operations Manager Security, Traffic and Fleet. It is a varied role that ensures safety and security of sites, the management of 435 fleet vehicles for community-based staff and the management of 3,500 parking bays across four sites.

What does a good day at work look like?

To me, a good day is a safe day. Staff, patients and whānau get home safely and no one is left stranded. The team engage with all departments and everyone visiting the hospitals, so customer care and cultural appropriateness are key parts of how the services operate.

“To me, a good day is a safe day.”

What do you enjoy about being an APEX Delegate?

I am new to the role; however, I have always been a people person and being a Delegate allows me the opportunity to support colleagues and ensure they are appropriately rewarded for the hard work and dedication they show daily.

What do you think APEX should focus on for AST professions in the future?

I believe that APEX and the employer should work collaboratively to provide a safe, enjoyable workplace where staff wish to remain and, through supporting learning and career development promote career paths that are properly recognised.

What do you like to do when you are not at work?

Outside of work I enjoy travel both within New Zealand and further afield. At home I am an ardent brewer of craft ales.
