Sterilising Technicians Strike at Hawke’s Bay Hospital on Wednesday 23 January 2019

20 Sterilising Technicians and APEX members at Hawke’s Bay Hospital will take strike action on Wednesday 23 January from 7am to 11pm. Sterilising Technicians are responsible for cleaning, sterilising and packaging surgical instruments and equipment. The District Health Board (DHB) has refused to provide APEX members working as Sterilising Technicians with the same salary increases offered to their colleagues at other DHBs.

Lakes DHB Anaesthetic Technicians to strike

Intense frustrations have culminated in Lakes DHB Anaesthetic Technicians at Rotorua Hospital issuing notice for two 24-hour strikes to be held on the 23rd and 25th of January 2019, beginning at 8am each day.

Southland Anaesthetic Technicians Strike

Anaesthetic Technicians at Southland Hospital commenced a strike at 0700hrs today, ending at 1600 tomorrow, Friday January 11. This strike follows the strike in October last year, in an attempt to settle these essential health workers’ collective agreement.

Ministerial Intervention Frustrating Settlements

APEX, the union representing allied scientific and technical practitioners in the health sector, supports the statements made on Radio NZ this morning by Jill Ovens, the co-advocate for the midwives’ union, MERAS, regarding Ministerial intervention in bargaining in health.
