Strike action begins at the New Zealand Blood Service (NZBS)

30 May 2024

APEX members employed by the New Zealand Blood Service will withdraw all labour from 0001 to 2359 tomorrow the 31st of May and from 0001 to 2359 next Tuesday the 4th of June.

The members are walking off the job tomorrow and Tuesday to push NZBS to come to the table with an offer on the principal issue of parity with Te Whatu Ora rates of pay.  At present, there is a 21%-28% pay differential between NZBS and Te Whatu Ora laboratory workers. These are two groups of workers that perform essentially the same duties and for whom remuneration has historically been aligned. APEX believes that such a large discrepancy in wages is untenable, and if these differences are allowed to become entrenched, would see the diminishment of an essential part of our nation’s health system.
