Third MIT (Radiographer) Strike Underway as DHBs yet to Provide Offer
Nearly 1200 DHB employed Medical Imaging Technologists (MITs) are currently on their third strike which involves a complete withdrawal of labour.
The third MIT strike began at 0700 today on Monday 14 October and ends at 0700 on Tuesday 15 October. A fourth 24-hour strike is set to take place at 0700 on Wednesday 16 October and ends at 0700 on Thursday 17 October.
Negotiations for the MIT national MECA (Multi Employer Collective Agreement) covering all 20 District Health Boards started in December 2018, however MITs across New Zealand continue to strike as 10 months of employment agreement negotiations fail to secure settlement.
“The DHBs are underestimating the strength and unity of the MITs. Strike action is the last resort, but until the DHBs come back with a suitable offer, these strikes will continue across the country,” says Dr Deborah Powell, National Secretary, APEX.
MITs are essential to radiology services, assisting with diagnosis and treatment of patients using general x-rays, CT, MRI, mammography, angiography and nuclear medicine.
